The Story Behind the Art
From a young age, I was captivated by the natural world. At just four years old, I declared to my parents that I would become a biologist. My fascination with collecting rocks, shells, plants, and insects was a defining feature of my childhood. I thrived on organizing, identifying, and examining these natural treasures up close, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in biology.
After years of studying and working in the field, I began to sense that something was missing from modern science. It wasn’t until I realized that I was in the right place but perhaps not at the right time that a new passion emerged. I discovered that my true calling lay in blending my scientific background with artistic expression.
I embrace the spirit of a naturalist, finding joy in observing and documenting nature through the lens of art. If you share my love for the natural world, I invite you to explore my artwork. Here, you’ll see nature as I perceive it—through my eyes and captured with my brushes. Enjoy the journey through my creations, and may they inspire a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
That’s a peek into my journey and the magic behind my art.
Thank you for wandering by.
With enchantment and gratitude,
Julie-Anne
My Artistic Vision
I use a multi-media approach to my creations, selecting techniques that breathe life into the subject. I blend watercolor and gouache on cotton paper and enhance each piece with delicate touches of ink, pens, acrylic, and glitter paint.
My work delves into and celebrates the rich diversity of the natural world—life and death, resilience and fragility, strength and softness—unraveling the complexity of existence, ultimately embracing life in all its forms.
The end result is a collection of beautiful, evocative pieces that honor the natural world—celebrating its contrasts and complexities, from the fragile and broken to the resilient and thriving, and particularly the elements that yearn to be wild and free.

Nature is my wellspring of inspiration.
I often wander through forests and fields, captivated by the critters and plants that spark my next artistic endeavor.
The inner scientific photographer in me is ever-drawn to capture and marvel at the subtleties of the natural world.
